Whatever their chosen field – from politics and music to fashion and sport – women have been leaving their mark on the world since time began.

International Women’s Day is the one day of the year that we devote to celebrating all things female and is designed to inspire women and celebrate their achievements.

To celebrate today’s 102nd International Women’s Day, we’ve put together a list of the Braintree team’s top inspirational females…

Stella McCartney
“I find Stella McCartney inspirational because she has made her own way in the fashion business by following her principles and staying true to what she believes in. She would have had so much pressure and incentive to give up on her ideals but she has shown that you can make it work while still practising what you preach!”

Madonna
“A career in showbiz spanning over 30 years and she’s still going and looking great. I love her ability to constantly reinvent herself as well as showing everyone that it’s ok not to act your age!”
With Love, Michael

Zooey Deschannel
“I’m a huge fan of Zooey Deschannel as she’s funny, clever, creative and talented and not afraid to be a little bit different. I also love her website hellogiggles.com – ‘a positive online community for women’. I think she’s a great role model for young females.”

Jessica Ennis
“I think Olympic champion Jessica Ennis is a true inspiration and a great role for everyone. As well as being incredibly fit, healthy and talented, I like how she’s so humble and down-to-earth.”

Beyonce… and my mum!
“I think the most inspirational female in the spotlight today has got to be Beyonce, but my number one most inspirational woman is my mum. She is the most loving, caring person I know, she makes the best caramel cake in the world AND she pretty much sacrificed most of her life to raise us 6 kids! My hat goes off to her.”

And a special mention to the first US African-American First Lady Michelle Obama. We all love her for her work with supporting military families, helping working women balance career and family, tackling child obesity, as well as regularly topping the best dressed lists.
