Stripes have always been a much-loved wardrobe staple here at Braintree and we’re super excited about our new Summer Stripes collection this season. We caught up with one of our designers, Sarah, to discover more about the hype behind the stripe…

Summer Stripes

Braintree: In a few words, how would you describe the new summer collection?

Sarah: The summer collection is Bright, Floral, Dreamy and Fun.

What do you do to begin the process?

I feel like the process never really stops! We are always on the hunt for new fabrics, shapes, prints etc, etc.

However, at the beginning of each season, we all bring in our favourite wardrobe pieces, good shapes, magazine tears and fabrics that have inspired us. We talk about what it is we love about the piece and why it would be good for our customer and how we can incorporate it into the range.

There are usually two major pieces from that which are the starting point for Spring and Summer ranges (as they have to be quite different).

What’s the inspiration behind the Summer Stripe pieces?

Stripes are such a wardrobe staple these days, they are easy to wear and look fab with denim. We sell them so well that it was a no-brainer that they were going into the range.

How do you decide which fabrics to use?

Here at Braintree, we only ever use fabrics that are natural, organic or recycled. We have our old favourites that go into the range in season, but we also like to try new fabrications too. The 100% Organic Cotton slub fabric this Summer is a new one, it’s super light weight which is perfect for summer and the slubby texture of the fabric is lovely! (See styles WST1761 and WST1760)

Do you design with someone in mind?

We are always thinking of our customer, we want her/him to be looking good no matter what he or she is doing.

What’s your favourite piece from the Summer Stripes collection and how would you style it?

The Tallowood Tunic in the Garden Rose Stripe. I team this tunic with dark denim ankle skimming jeans and purple NIKE trainers. It’s the perfect piece for kicking around in on the weekend.

When it comes to fashion, which summer trends are you loving right now?

There are quite a few I’m loving at the moment… the bright coloured blocking on the high street, fluro accessories (handbags and heels), all the festival gear that is starting to come out (even though it’s always too cold/wet and muddy to wear any of it!), maxi dresses, light purple coloured hair dye and brightly coloured trainers.

What’s a style tip that every woman can use?

I’m totally obsessed with our tie dye scarves from the summer range, they are a great colour vehicle to brighten up any dull outfit. I have one in every colour!

Thanks Sarah!
