Why we love London
Happy St George’s Day! Today is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the very best of what England has to offer – and in particular our much-loved capital city – London.
So, we may be slightly biased, but we believe London to be one of the world’s greatest cities to visit, work and live in. From our unforgettable royal celebrations, to the cultural South Bank; from the bohemian Camden market, to the best theatre in the world; there are so many reasons why we love it here in the big smoke.
We gathered some of the Braintree team together to come up with a list of what we love the most. So here they are, our little loves of London…
Home, Sweet Home
“I love London because I’ve always lived here. Although I’ve travelled widely I still think it’s the best city in the world. You can find everything you could possibly need (from a tea strainer to a tarantula!) and the people are great too. Even the sun has come out for St Georges Day!”
Food, Glorious Food
“Host to some of the best restaurants in the world, London is the city to treat yourself to a variety of different cuisines, one of the 51 michelin starred restaurants, or my particular favourite – a traditional afternoon tea in a Luxury London hotel. I recently enjoyed a sumptuous Afternoon Tea at The Goring Hotel (voted the best in London for 2013) …It was amazing!”
For all the live music you can go and watch!
“I saw the French band ‘Phoenix’ last night at Shephards Bush Empire – (they recently headlined the American Coachella festival… but did a Monday night intimate gig in London!)”
“I love London for ALL the incredible things it has to offer, but as a cricket fan it’s very special to be able to pop down the road to Lords (the home of cricket) for a bash in the nets on a spring evening. Brilliant!”
The Spice of Life
“I love London. Always have – always will. It’s a dirty, chaotic, sometime baffling place but it’s also beautiful, ordered and guaranteed to bring happiness when you least expect it. There are far too many amazingly wonderful things to list about it but one of my fave parts is Soho. I’ve had to many good times there and it’s always presenting new and interesting bits that I haven’t explored previously. The people, the stores and the vibe all combine to make it stand out and make it a must see destination for visitors to London. This little pub, just off Cambridge Circus, has a great name and one that epitomises London for me. Happy St Georges Day!”
Markets, museums and more – just a short journey away!
“I love the fact I’m able to go anywhere and everywhere so easily – just a train or bus ride and you can hop out into central London. You can always find something to do (and it doesn’t have to cost loads either!) whether it’s a lazy stroll and a picnic in hyde park in the summer or roaming around the Tate Gallery and the Natural History museum when the weather isn’t so great. Also, I love the vibe around markets like Camden and Portobello and the fact that there are so many venues in London that you can watch live music :)”
“London as everyone knows is a true music capital of the world. What makes it especially satisfying is being able to go to an intimate gig and readily meet the international talent in person. Recently I turn out at a Jools Holland recording included Jimmy Page from Led Zep, Sixto Rodriguez (inspired incredible documentary “searching for sugar man”) and yours truly got snapped with sweet sounding Ellie Goulding. The crowd (continues to) go wild!”
