Everyone has at least one song that instantly makes him or her think ‘summer’. I was curious to know which songs our team would plump for, so I asked everyone in the office to pick his or hers. The result? A summer soundtrack that speaks of long halcyon days – enjoy!

1. Summer in the city by Lovin Spoonful

Picked by our thoughtful friend John Spooner as “It’s a carefree song that epitomises the happy hippie I was in the ’60s!”

2. You make my dreams by Hall & Oates

Becky’s choice: “It’s a great feel-good song! I found it from the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack after I saw the film.”

3. Mr blue sky by electric light orchestra.

“A fun upbeat record that takes me back to carefree summers as a kid. It brings a smile to my face and is a great running track too”, says Mark.

4. Little bird by Goldfrapp.

Another from Mark “…with beautiful poetic lyrics about being free and dancing in the land of blue gold. There’s quite an incredible chorus where Alison [Goldfrapp] bellows out ‘JULY!'”

5. The birds and the bees by The Two Bears.

Gemma’s choice as “It’s got a really pretty summery vibe that I love.” It even features an ice cream van!

6. Black angle by Ike and Tina Turner.

I love this one. It makes me think of long, hot hazy afternoons spent in the park that stretch into unplanned, fun evenings – the best kind.

7. Sunny afternoon by the Kinks.

Drenched with summer vibes, Emma loves this one.

8. Let me be by Xavier Rudd.

Rhiannon’s choice: “This one reminds me of the beach days of my childhood growing up in sunny Queensland, Australia.”

9. Trains to Brazil by the Guillemots.

“A great summer driving track. Shades on, windows down!” – Gemma.

10. California Dreaming by the Beach Boys.

“A summer classic and my soundtrack of choice for mojitos by the pool!” – Rhiannon.
