We’ve noticed you really enjoy reading more about how our collections come to be. So like last season, we’ve asked our creative team to give us a little more insight on Spring 2017. (It’s just arrived online here).

Behind The Scenes: Spring 2017

Where The Shoot Took Place

Looking for a summery setting (in not great British weather!) we found ourselves setting up at a lovely London pub.

Its old, rustic feel, beautiful vintage furniture and quirky features made it perfect. And our new collection felt completely at home with this backdrop of wonderfully-textured, aged wallpaper, botanical posters, and maps. We then contrasted the richness of the pub with a mini shoot in our bright, airy office.

A Bit About Our Inspiration

Our Spring 2017 story begins with modern-day artists and craftspeople inspiring us. Their handcrafts, hand painting and patchwork ideas weave their way into the collection.

“A good example of this is the Marcel Top. It reinvents a classic spot print blouse by using a hand-painted design. We smudged the pattern a little so to give a sense of the hand of the artist.” – Mark.

A sense of casual urban cool was key to this collection too. The Antoine Throw, modern and understated, is the perfect example of this. Next, we looked to the true story of the first female to circumnavigate the globe – Jeanne Baret. She disguised herself as a man only to discover new plant species on her travels, including the Bougainvillea. Sailor stripes, maps of the world, botanical drawings and even a Bougainvillea pink accent nod to the amazing adventures of Baret.

Speaking Of Our Prints…

Lush foliage, bold, abstract blooms, geometrics – and our first love stripes. We continue our love of print this season, adding to them with even more of our own in-house designs. Paint splashes appear as prints on several of our pieces. Our design team simply fell in love with the dynamic energy they give. And also the idea of the undisciplined, free hand. We also created the amazing print, ‘Voyage de Jeanne’. “It literally tells the story of Jeanne Baret’s adventures [through our collection]. It’s complete with botanical drawings, maps of the areas she visited, and even images of herself and the ship she travelled on.” – Mark.
