Stockist Stories: We Chat to Eva of NILA Store in Prague
Tell us a bit about your shop. How would you describe it in one sentence?
A Prague based conscious living store.
How did you come up with its name?
Over a glass of wine, it is derived from the name of the river Nile, its atmosphere, smell, flow.
How long have you been open and how did the idea start?
We have been operating since 2011 with a brick-and-mortar store opening in 2014. I found the inspiration on home exchange to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
What about your city, what’s your favourite thing about living in Prague?
Great food, old cinemas and spring trees in bloom.
Where’s your favourite place nearby to relax and be thoughtful?
The square of Jiřího z Poděbrad with its unique church and lively farmer’s market.
Do you have any local tips? Maybe there’s a hidden gem you’d like to share?
Going up the communist-era TV tower “Vysílač” for an unrivalled view of Prague.
Let’s talk a bit about Thought. Which is your favourite garment from our current collection?
The Felipa dress is my personal favourite.
Who would you like to dress in Thought if you could?
Definitely my mom!
A bit about you. What’s life outside the shop like for you?
I spend time with my two children, Meda (4) and Barnabas (1.5) and my husband Pavel, we live nearby the shop and live very locally , enjoying parks and playgrounds of Vinohrady, our local district.
What would you be doing if you didn’t have the shop? Maybe you already have a side project?
I would be writing or doing business coaching. I am already doing a little bit of both when I have time, I also write for our NILA blog about life, slow fashion, doing retail, pretty much anything that I think our customers will enjoy.
Where’s the last place you travelled to?
What was the last book you read?
Dress with sense – a Practical Guide to a Conscious Closet.
What’s your biggest passion or love?
Travelling. I think it opens minds and hearts. I love the sense of adventure and the open road ahead.
On living thoughtfully. How and what do you do to unwind? Maybe you have a tip for our readers?
I am not very good at yet, though I am trying! Currently a good movie and a glass of wine will do the trick for me!
And what about living thoughtfully? How do you embrace it?
Through my work, spreading the positive message of slow fashion and living simply, with less.
Our mantra is ‘Wear me, love me, mend me, pass me on’. Do you have a mantra?
Buy less, buy better.
