Nature's Poet: A contemporary new print story
The natural world is never far from our inspiration. And this new collection looks to the poets, artists and writers who have shared our appreciation of the British countryside. Poems of the early 19th century Romantic Movement play a key part in inspiring this collection’s mood and our unique prints. In particular, William Wordsworth’s famous poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.
Nature’s Poet: the story behind our unique prints this spring
Daffodils, poetic texts and scenic landscapes give a fresh new direction to this collection’s unique prints. These appear on modern silhouettes with contemporary styling.
We design every piece, as always, to be effortless to wear. It’s important to us that you look good in our clothes, though we want you feel great too. With that in mind we cut our styles to flatter real figures, and design clothes you’ll wear for seasons to come.
We’ve complemented our Nature’s Poet collection with an ever-versatile cloth – chambray. It brings a casual vibe that we love; one we’ve made more special with tonal embroidery. A nod to our early Victorian inspiration.
And when it comes to colour, there’s no shortage. A palette of fern green and sunflower yellow emphasises our floral forays. We temper this with a soft, grey slate shade. A hue you can wear with everything – other neutrals for a minimal look, bold brights for colour-popping contrast.
Later this year, a hand-painted floral print will complement this collection’s feminine side. It’ll also give an injection of summer prettiness. Expect billowy pieces crafted from Tencel and in our best-selling silhouettes. Look out for these pieces arriving closer to summer!
Mark, our designer, picks his key pieces…
“This skirt features Wordsworth’s famous poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. To achieve a repeat, we edited lines from the poem and multiplied them – so reading the poem takes on a new life. It also allows us to emphasise certain phrases; celebrating the joy and beauty of the natural world the poem itself celebrates. This skirt is a truly original and very special piece that we are all proud of.” – M.
“We dipped into a vintage print archive to imagine this dress. I particularly love the painterly mark making and strong use of colour.” – M.
The dress is super-flattering with its tie-waist detail and soft-cut sleeve silhouette. We developed an ‘eyelash’ edging for the neckline and sleeves so it give it subtle feminine detail. It completes the styling of this modern and contemporary dress silhouette.” – M.
“A key wardrobe essential. Chic and modern in our wonderfully soft modal bamboo cloth.” – M.
“Another item celebrating Wordsworth poetry. The print features a copy of Wordsworth original I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud manuscript.” – M.
“We love a statement skirt. This season’s celebrates the poetry theme with a bouquet including, of course, the daffodil – another reference to Wordsworth’s poem. The stripes at the hem give the skirt a contemporary twist and a sense of fun.” – M.
