As much as I love hunkering down during the winter, I’m one of those people who breathes a sigh of relief when spring time rolls around again; from the longer, lighter days to the abundance of flowers and homegrown vegetables, I’m way happier when the sun is shining and the birds are singing.  To celebrate the arrival of the official British spring time, I’ve come up with a super quick and easy spring wreath tutorial. The best thing about wreath-making is that there are absolutely no rules; whether you’re into foraging for wildflowers, or you prefer a trip to the local florist, pretty much anything goes; I used eucalyptus for the greenery, and then goldenrod and gypsophila for their wildness – and then finished it off with a few sprigs from the blossom trees.

Instructions:

1. Start by choosing your base layer of greenery – I picked eucalyptus because it has quite robust, bendy stems, which makes it ideal for bending around the wreath ring, and threading other things through. Choose a couple of long pieces, and trim any side stems.

2. Wrap the first piece of greenery around the ring. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and don’t worry if you tear any leaves – the great thing about making wreaths is that you can just cover up any mistakes with more foliage!

3. Secure the ends using the floristry wire.

4. Add the rest of the base layer, until the wreath ring is covered.

5. Lay the rest of the flowers and foliage around the ring – it’s always a good idea to get a rough idea of how you want it to look before you cut anything. Weave the stems in and around until you’re happy with the effect; there’s no right or wrong way to make a wreath, and you can go as big as you like or opt to keep it simple.
