Ever since we posted our blog post on how to reuse your old coffee grounds, you’ve been asking for a DIY coffee scrub recipe. This is a recipe that our Marketing Coordinator, Hannah, swears by for a morning glow that lasts all day. So for those of you who are *slightly* addicted to coffee, try this DIY method as way to get your daily jolt AND do your part for the environment.

Ingredients:

Coffee grounds (ideally from Fairtrade brands such as Grumpy Mule)

Tate and Lyle Fairtrade Granulated Sugar

Biona Organic Coconut Oil

Old jar or similar small glass reusable container.

Method:

Add a few spoonfuls of coconut oil to jar (depending on how much face scrub you would like to make)

Put jar in a saucepan and put on a low heat until coconut oil is semi melted and mixable.

Add coffee grounds (amount to add depends on how exfoliating you would like your scrub. If you had sensitive skin or want to use this scrub daily; use less coffee grounds and sugar. If you will use this as a standard 2 times a week exfoliant add a medium amount. If you want to use this as a body scrub, add more).

Add granulated sugar (dissolves as you scrub and is much better for your skin than *certain* apricot scrubs)

Take jar off the heat and mix, leave to cool down and re-solidify at room temperature.

Use cooled, add air-tight lid.

Scrub away!

Once used – you can add this scrub to plants or to your compost, no need to wash down the drain.
