Giving Some Thought to International Ozone Day

September 16th is International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, and this year marks 35 years of global ozone layer protection. The ozone layer protects us from harmful rays of sunlight, and in 1985, an agreement was made to stop the use of chemicals that deplete this protective gas shield, therefore protecting life on earth.

Here at Thought, we are proud of the way we are contributing to reducing our impact on the environment through conscious design choices. Since 1995, we have sourced sustainable materials and recycled existing fabrics that are not only built to last, but are kind to the planet.

That’s not all though, we ensure that every step of the way, our supply chains are kept in check to ensure our environmental standards are adhered to.

Discover some of the planet-friendly fabrics and processes we use here at Thought:

Recycled Nylon

One of our brand-new fabrics is our recycled nylon blend. We are particularly excited about this as it rescues nylon that would otherwise end up in landfill; and one of the great things about nylon is that it moulds and fits to your body, so it makes for flattering underwear and tights.

Organic Cotton

Spun with soft, sustainable yarn, our organic cotton pieces are breathable and give a lovely, effortless drape. Our organic cotton wardrobe builders are long-lasting and comfortable, complimenting any look.

We also stock a range of Fairtrade organic cotton tees. These pieces are made with Fairtrade cotton that is certified, traded and audited, and they are made by Fairtrade producers. We have a selection of long sleeve and short sleeve options, meaning they work well in your wardrobe whatever the weather.

Recycled Wool and Polyester

According to Greenpeace, a truckload of plastic enters the ocean every minute. Believe it or not, we’ve been able to use some of this wasted plastic and turn it into a strong, sustainable fabric. Each one of our Jekyll umbrellas uses 6 plastic bottles, and our Phebe Puffa uses approximately 120 bottles to make its cosy, weatherproof fabric.

We’ve also developed a new recycled wool and polyester blend which is one of the lowest-impact fabrics we’ve ever used.

Our Plastic Free Packaging

Alongside the products we sell, we also ensure that our packaging uses zero plastic, and this includes our labels. In fact, our labels are made from soft, sustainable and organic cotton that feels soft and luxurious. When your order arrives in the post, you can pop the packaging in the compost and it will return to the ground.

No Air Travel

As a company, we make sure that all materials are transported via the sea, never the air, reducing our pollution and carbon footprint.
