Today is the beginning of Organic September 2014 - the UK's biggest celebration of all things organic. Organised by the Soil Association, the idea behind Organic September is that the cumulative effect of a lot of people making a small change to their shopping habits will have a positive impact on the environment, animal welfare, and the supply of sustainable foods available in the UK.
The Soil Association website states, "By choosing organic we can all support a kinder, greener and better food system – from more bees and hedgerows, better animal welfare, and shorter more trustworthy food chains."
WEAR ORGANIC COTTON
Braintree Clothing supports the Small Changes, Big Difference
campaign this Organic September, which is encouraging everyone to convert to organic in small steps.
Braintree is deeply rooted by our desire to create individual, environmentally friendly clothes. Over the years we've worked closely with our suppliers to create, develop and refine the raw materials we use. We're proud to say that all our garments are fashioned from natural, sustainable fabrics, including our 100% Organic GOTS Certified Cotton.
Unlike cotton, which uses around a quarter of the world's toxic chemicals, organic cotton is grown naturally, proven to save and protect water resources and reduce carbon emissions, making it better for you and the planet. Organic cotton textiles are made without using pesticides and other hazardous chemicals, making them kinder, greener and better for the environment.
HOW TO TAKE PART
How can you take part in Organic September? Well, there are lots of ways! Why not make a pact to replace just one of your everyday products each month with an organic one instead. As well as switching to organic cotton clothing, you could also replace food items, beauty products, or household goods and before you know it you could be completely organic! Some of the small changes you can make include switching to organic milk, eggs, or apples or even buying an organic cotton t-shirt
Helen Browning, Soil Association Chief Executive, says: "While it might not seem like these simple changes could make that much difference, together everyone’s small changes can add up to a really big difference for a kinder, green and better food and farming system."
