With cinema and theatres still mainly closed, we’ve been appreciating the influx of drive-in cinemas popping up the UK; giving you the chance to enjoy a classic movie – including many family friendly ones - at a social distance.

Rest assured, cars will be required to park two metres apart, movie tickets will be all be scanned through closed window and in some cases snacks can be ordered on an app and delivered to your vehicle, perhaps even by a waiter on roller skates!

Here we list a few of the ones we have found and our summer movie classics, if you don’t fancy the drive-in.

Locations: Throughout the UK

80's classics and 2010's blockbusters films will be preceded by a range of entertainment that includes stand-up comedy, bingo or silent car discos. Food and snacks will be available to order online through a mobile app and, in true 50s drive in fashion, roller waiters will bring your order to a drop off point by your car. From Edinburgh to Brighton tickets are on sale now and the programme starts on 6th July and runs right through to October.

The Luna Drive in Cinema

Locations: Five great venues including Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle

Luna have thought long and hard about the best way to bring cinema back whilst adhering to social distancing measures and are claiming to have come up with the ultimate drive-in experience.

With state-of-the-art sound and screens, a fantastic selection of food and drink (all with contactless ordering and delivery) and a selection of some of the best films ever made. For us though, the venures were the draw – Knebworth House in Hertfordshire and Warwick Castle in the Midlands. The programme starts in July and includes theatre adaptations like Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge and as well as sing-along Grease and Rocketman.

Location: South East

Is a family run outdoor cinema covering not only Essex but the South East of England and its surrounding areas. They also operate an outdoor experience that isn’t just for cars, which is showing up at load of different locations in the South East over the Summer, playing everything from ‘The Greatest Showman’ to ‘The Italian Job’.
