This week we have launched our new Summer 13 collection
– we know, we know – Summer isn’t here yet. (Yet!!! It will come!) But all of us here have seriously exhausted our Winter wardrobes and the idea of wearing new, gorgeous Summer clothes is just too tempting. Here we talk to one of our designers, Rachel, about the inspiration for Summer Garden...
Braintree: Where did the idea for the range come from?
Rachel: Summer Garden was definitely inspired by an idea of the perfect bohemian summer but taking that and mixing it with the classic English Summer Garden – but not a clean, well-organised garden... we were thinking more about a messy, wild overgrown garden!
Once you have the concept, where do you take that next?
Our next thing to do is to create a really visual representation of what we are trying to create. So we all bring in our favourite magazine tears, or inspiration shots we’ve kept or paintings we love – whatever we are obsessing over at that moment and bring it all together to give us a visual guide that we can keep going back to, to keep us on the right track.
What about the prints for each collection… How do you come up with them?
We design all of the prints in house; each season the prints are exclusive to us which we think is really important and makes the collection special and unique. We usually start with designing one print that brings together all of the elements of the range and then build around that. This season the print that brings the whole thing together is the Garden Floral print...
And lastly... What is your favourite piece from the Summer Garden range?
At the moment I am head over heels for the Summer Hemlock Cardi
– I wear mine like a tunic with my boyfriend jeans, its pretty much perfect :)
