The fabric: TENCEL™
A smooth operator with eco credentials
One of the world’s most sustainable fabrics, thanks to how little energy and water is used in its production. As a fabric, it feels like pure luxury.
the unexpected joy:
resilient, renewable eucalyptus trees are grown without the use of genetic manipulation, irrigation, or pesticides. once harvested, the trees are processed into chips which are pulped and dried into sheets. these sheets are broken up and dissolved in a non-toxic amine oxide solution, which results in a clear, cellulose viscous liquid.
next, long tencel™ fibres are produced by forcing the viscous liquid through spinnerets dotted with tiny holes, a bit like a shower head. the long strands are set, washed, dried and detangled. Then, they get compacted using a crimper to add bulk and texture. These fibres are ready to be spun into the soft, lightweight, breathable Tencel™ fabric.
• the eucalyptus trees are grown in sustainable, fsc certified forests
• the fibres made in production are compostable and biodegradable, so can fully revert back to nature
• the finished fabric is 50% more absorbent than cotton
When it’s wash day, TENCEL™
is a breeze. A quick, cool machine wash and line dry is all it takes. No
ironing. No tumble drying. More energy saved (yours, and the planet’s).
