plastic free july
The Thought: Plastic Free July is a global movement bringing people together to end plastic pollution. This is important, as plastic is having a devastating impact on our land and ocean ecosystems. Plastic isn’t biodegradable, so every piece of plastic ever made still exists. Only 9% of plastic is recycled, which means 91% ends up in landfill, contaminating soil and causing water pollution.
The Feeling: reducing plastic consumption and promoting natural materials is something we are passionate about. At Thought, we consider every part of our process to make sure we avoid plastic. We’re well on the way to becoming a completely virgin plastic-free company. We avoid using harmful fabrics in our designs, and we go the extra mile with our materials. Our manufacturing process is already virgin plastic-free, and we increase our use of planet-friendly plant-based fibres year on year. As part of our commitments to people and planet, we promised to make all of our packaging plastic free by 2022 – and we delivered. This year we launched our zero plastic, biodegradable, compostable packaging, coloured with gorgeous natural dyes that are easy on the eye and gentle on the planet. We are so proud to have achieved this goal.
The Facts: Our packaging is now 100% plastic free, and our AW22 collection will feature 46% more hemp, Lenzing Ecovero, organic cotton, Seacell, Tencel, Modal and wool, compared to AW20. All of these fabrics are derived from nature, biodegradable, and responsibly produced using less energy and water.
The Future: It is important people and businesses reduce their plastic consumption overall and recycle where possible. We are proud to be leaders in sustainable fashion, particularly in our work to reduce plastic consumption. We will continue to advocate and make change where we can. Join us and let’s push plastic into the past.
