We’re sure, like us, you love nothing more than escaping to the coast. It needn’t be to a far-flung locale. A quick hop to the British seaside, welcoming the wind and unpredictable weather, is as restorative and inspiring. For this
new summer collection, Distant Shores our imaginations do travel further afield. To lands where foliage is lush and plentiful. Colour is just as rich. A tropic climate leads us towards the coast and a wealth of life, colour, and inspiration. The flora and fauna we find recharge and refresh staple silhouettes. And lend their natural beauty to more flattering, summer looks; vibrant print skirts and soft flowing dresses. Deep sea greens, sand dune pinks and sundown apricot. These become the shades to ever evoke our idyllic surroundings – long after leaving.
Distant Shores: The Hallmark Prints
The Nerissa Print
Think a thriving ocean floor, with bright fauna swaying in the waves, and you’ve.
The Tahiti Print
Seaflowers bending and waving water-coloured shadows.
The Coralium print
Seaweed stems and their pods mingle with vibrant coral branches.
The Oceanid Print
Calming soft pastel hues capture seashells and ocean fronds.
The Solar Palms Print
Tropical, kaleidoscopic - almost psychedelic - this hot print will look great in the heat of summer.
The Koro Print
Fish tales, fish scales – the Koi Carp is the focal point of this Eastern-inspired pattern.
Distant Shores: The Colour Palette
It’s all about coastlines, coral reefs and ocean floors. The spectrum of colours you stretches from shore-found to deep ocean hues. Think pebble grey and white, to seafoam, lagoon blue, rose pink and apricot.
Distant Shores: Mark, Our Designer, Picks His Key Pieces
“This theme was great to work on, nature is a constant inspiration to us, looking to the oceans brought a new perspective and one that we wanted to highlight - in particular from an ecologically aware perspective.” – Mark.
We like our prints to feel unique and different so the underwater theme was a great starting point. We commissioned a local textile artist to create print artworks referencing coral and seaweed. The Nerissa and Coralium prints were the result which we are all extremely proud of. I love all the pieces. At a push I would single out the Coralium Dress. I love how its simple silhouette shows off the subtleties and watery brushstrokes of the print. And the Nerissa Skirt. It's designed to flatter and fit perfectly. The print is so intricate and beautifully drawn – I see something new every time I look at it.
Another favourite is the Tahiti Kimono. This is a new styling direction for us and another great opportunity to feature one of our unique prints. We have used a very lightweight organic cotton crepe fabric to give this piece a laid back summer vibe. It’s a great piece to style up a pair of jeans and t shirt for a bit of off-duty glamour.
Our 100% hemp is a fabric we always use for our summer collection. It’s laundered look and soft handle is perfect for warm summer days. This season we have upped our fashion credentials by adding a paper bag waist to our Jazmenia Skirt. It gives this wardrobe staple a contemporary twist that is also extremely flattering.
Finally we found an antique broderie anglaise fabric at a vintage fair and developed our own fabric using exactly the same design. The Irvette Top is one of the pieces developed which I single out as one of my favourite pieces. The pleated sleeves at the elbow to give a modern femininity. The sleeve hems have a pretty scalloped edge, all thoughtfully considered by our great design team.
We hope you love our new collection. Let us know in the comments box below which pieces are your favourites. Maybe it's our print skirts? Or maybe you love a particular print story? You can also read about the inspiration behind other new collections,
